Introducing the 2020 Toyota Highlander

When it comes to SUVs, Toyota is known for manufacturing some of the best on the market, including its signature SUV, the Highlander. For the 2020 model year, the Highlander is getting a well-deserved redesign. Let’s discuss what you can expect with the new version of this beloved vehicle.
Exterior
While you can expect the 2020 Highlander to be rugged enough for all of your adventures, an exterior redesign gives it a sleeker, more sophisticated look than previous versions. Its sculpted and chiseled frame is built around a new vehicle platform called Toyota New Global Architecture. This platform will give the Highlander even more capability.
The 2020 model will be available in five trim levels: L, LE, XLE, Limited, and Platinum. Featuring 20-inch alloy wheels on the Limited and Platinum trims, this is the first time wheels of that size have been available on the Highlander. Five new colors are added to the Highlander’s exterior palette: Magnetic Gray Metallic, Moon Dust, Ruby Flare Pearl, Blueprint, and Opulent Amber.
While the exterior redesign gives the Highlander a stunning appearance, it also makes the SUV more functional. It’s sleeker frame allows for better aerodynamics, reducing wind noise and improving vehicle stability.
Interior
An interior redesign makes the Highlander more spacious and luxurious than ever before. The 2020 Highlander is 2.36 inches longer than previous versions, increasing the maximum cargo volume to 73.3 cubic feet. Side surfaces and pockets provide additional storage. The second-row seating can be slid up to 1.2-inches, allowing more legroom for passengers in the third-row. The XLE and Limited trim levels give you the option of captain’s chairs or bench seating, while second-row captain’s chairs are standard in the Platinum. Standard three-zone climate control ensures that all passengers, from the front-row to the third-row, are comfortable.
Capabilities
As with previous versions, the 2020 Highlander will deliver a smooth, powerful, and dynamic ride. Under the hood you’ll find a 295 horsepower 3.5-liter V-6 engine capable of producing 263 pound-feet of torque. An available towing package, featuring improved fan performance, will give your Highlander a maximum towing capacity of 5,000 pounds. The trailer sway control feature makes towing safer than ever before. The standard stop and start engine system reduces fuel consumption and improves the Highlander’s emissions.
Hybrid Models
As with previous model years, the 2020 Highlander will be available as a hybrid. The 2020 Highlander Hybrid comes equipped with the new-generation Toyota Hybrid System. This system consists of a high-efficiency 2.5-liter DOHC four-cylinder engine and two electric motors. It puts out 240 horsepower and gives the Highlander a combined rating of 34 miles per gallon. This rating is a vast improvement over the previous version’s 28 combined mpg. For the first time, the Highlander Hybrid will be available in both the two-wheel drive and all-wheel drive configurations, giving drivers even more options.
These are just some of the exciting features that you can look forward to in the Highlander redesign. The 2020 model will soon be available to test drive, so stay tuned.

Whether you live in the Rochester area or plan on visiting, if you enjoy biking, there are several trails that are well worth exploring. Let’s discuss some of them and what makes them so unique.
Blazing Star State Trail
The six-mile Blazing Star State Trail runs from Albert Lea Lake to Myre-Big Island State Park. At the start of the paved trail, you’ll have the option to circle the marshy area on the lake’s north shore. The trail then takes you through the east side of the city of Albert Lea, but soon emerges into a rural landscape. At the trail’s conclusion, you’ll be treated to views of wetlands, oak savanna, big woods, and prairie. Be sure to keep an eye out for the warblers, mockingbirds, and sparrows that inhabit the area.
Cannon Valley Trail
The 19.7-mile Cannon Valley Trail traces the path of the former Chicago Great Western Railroad line. It connects the communities of Red Wing, Welch, and Cannon Falls. Along the trail, you’ll be treated to stunning views and interesting sights. One such sight is an area known as The Big Fill, a ravine that was once spanned by a 400-foot long railroad bridge, but is now filled in. A scenic overlook provides photo-worthy views of the Cannon River. There’s also a railroad-era gravel pit and cliffs covered with moss lichen, wild ginger, and ferns.
The trail continues through a hardwood forest of sugar maple, black walnut, and ash. Before you reach the trail’s end, you’ll pass by a train wreck site, a sod house, and the Cannon Valley Turtle Preserve, among other notable features.
Chippewa River State Trail
The Chippewa River State Trail runs 30.4 miles from the confluence of the Eau Claire and Chippewa Rivers to the Tarrant Park trailhead. As you head southeast from Phoenix Park, you’ll pass over a 500-foot-long railroad trestle once used to transport train cars. The trail meanders along the Chippewa River’s shoreline as it makes its way through Owen Park, home of the historic Sarge Boyd Bandshell. The bandshell is still in use, so you might enjoy some music as you’re riding by.
As it exits the park, the trail emerges into Farm Country. As the trail continues, it will take you across the Cranberry Creek and through a ghost town called Old Tyrone. At the trail’s end, you’ll enjoy fantastic waterside views.
Douglas State Trail
The 12.5-mile Douglas State Trail runs from Rochester to Pine Island. It occupies a railbed that once served as a corridor between the two cities. You can still see some of the obelisk railroad mile markers. As the trail leaves Rochester, it enters the town that gave it its name, Douglas. It then crosses the Zumbro River and two creeks as it passes through a hardwood forest. The trail will also take you through working farms, so keep an eye out for cows.
These are just some of the excellent bike trails near Rochester. No matter which one you choose, you’re sure to enjoy the ride.

Rochester, MN, has a lot to offer visitors. Two popular and meaningful sites we’re particularly proud of are the Soldiers Field Veterans Memorial and Mayowood Mansion. We invite you to enjoy them as much as we do.
Soldiers Field Veterans Memorial
The Soldiers Field Veterans Memorial at Soldiers Field Memorial Park honors the lives and the sacrifices of veterans from southeastern Minnesota — past, present, and future.
The focal point of the memorial is the 12-by-50-foot Wall of Remembrance, a circular granite wall that honors more than 3,000 members of the military from southeastern Minnesota who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to their country, from the U.S. Civil War to present day.
The Wall of Remembrance is joined by the Walk of Remembrance, which features more than 6,000 pavers honoring veterans and allies, and the Trees of Remembrance, 50 sponsored maple trees representing every state in the USA. Each maple has a tree paver at its base with the name of either an honored veteran or the donor of the tree.
Six flags fly behind the monument to represent the Army, Air Force, Coast Guard, Marine Corps, Merchant Marines, and Navy. Four benches represent the four tragic flights of Sept. 11, 2001, and a black bench honors and remembers prisoners of war and those missing in action.
The memorial is flanked by two cannons: one from World War I supplied by the American Legion and the other an Iraqi anti-aircraft canon supplied by the local Army unit. The exterior walls of the memorial provide visual history with graphics from the Civil War to the Gulf War, including engravings depicting the bombing of Pearl Harbor and medics putting soldiers onto a helicopter during the Vietnam War. You’ll see a statue of a medic and a nurse treating a wounded soldier and another heart-wrenching statue of a widow and child being notified of the death of their loved one.
The memorial park is at 300 Seventh St. SW. It’s open to the public daily until 10 p.m. and is illuminated after dark.
Mayowood Mansion
Mayowood was once the 3,300-acre estate of Mayo Clinic co-founder Dr. Charles H. Mayo and his wife, Edith. The property is highlighted by the 38-room Mayowood Mansion, which was completed in 1911. Their son, Dr. Charles W. Mayo and his wife, Alice, lived in the home until their deaths in the late 1960s. The stately mansion was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1970.
The estate, located at 3720 Maywood Road SW, is now owned by Mayo Clinic. The History Center of Olmstead County gives public tours of the home, showing a wide variety of art pieces as well as furniture from France, Spain, Germany, and the United States. You can walk through the gardens after the tour. Public guided tours are held Wednesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays from early spring to late October. Group tours of up to 45 people can be accommodated. Christmas tours are also featured.
If you only have time to visit a couple of Rochester’s public attractions, make it these two. We’re sure you’ll find the experiences moving and educational.
