The 2019 Toyota Prius has been redesigned with a new front fascia and restyled front and rear lighting layouts, while retaining its distinctive aerodynamic styling. Also, for the first time, the Prius is now available with electronic all-wheel drive, AWD-e, adding improved traction to its impressive list of features. Four trim levels are available — L Eco, LE, XLE, and Limited — with AWD-e being offered as an option on LE and XLE models.

Exterior Styling

Base models offer an active grille shutter for improved efficiency, Bi-LED projector beam headlamps, LED daytime running lights, LED taillamps, 15-inch alloy wheels, heated power side mirrors, and body-colored door handles. XLE models feature rain-sensing wipers, automatic headlamps, and 17-inch wheels. AWD-e models have unique 15-inch wheels, LED accent lighting, and integrated fog lamps. The Limited trim gets adaptive front lights with automatic leveling headlamps.

The hybrid system’s combined power output is 121 horsepower driving the front wheels via an electronically controlled continuously variable transmission. AWD-e models feature a separate electric motor driving the on-demand AWD system.

L Eco models can return up to 58 and 53 mpg for city and highway driving. The other front-wheel-drive models get up to 54 and 50 mpg, while the AWD-e models return 52 and 48 mph. However, you benefit from better traction when you need it.

Interior

L Eco and LE trims feature cloth upholstery, a six-way adjustable driver’s seat, and 60/40 split rear seat. With the rear seats in place you have cargo space of 27.4 cubic feet which increases to 65.5 cubic feet with the rear seats folded. Toyota’s Entune infotainment system offers a 6.1-inch touch screen, voice command with Bluetooth, a six-speaker sound system, three USB ports, and auxiliary input.

The city offers high-quality shopping, independent boutiques, a variety of restaurants, art galleries, parks, and much more. Here are some of the attractions in and around downtown Rochester.

The Plummer Building

Named for one of the co-founders of the Mayo Clinic, the Plummer Building opened in 1928 and housed medical specialties of the clinic. It is now used for many academic and administrative functions.

The 15-story architectural masterpiece features stunning stonework, sculpted bronze doors each weighing 4,000 pounds, a lobby with marble mosaic flooring, and vintage elevators. The third-floor Historical Suite houses the offices of the original Mayo brothers and many artifacts detailing the clinic’s history.

Heritage House Victorian Museum

Close to downtown Rochester on First Street NW is Heritage House, built in 1875 for Timothy and Eliza Whiting. The home survived a tornado in 1883 that destroyed a third of the city. Almost a century later, the house was saved from demolition. In 1972, it was moved to Central Park and restored to its former glory.

Tours of the house are available in June, July, and August with knowledgeable docents pointing out the Victorian antiques and artifacts. It provides a unique insight into what life was like in that era.

Silver Lake Park

If you want to relax and enjoy some nature, Silver Lake Park is just a mile north of downtown. The park features shaded, forested trails, with a 1.8-mile loop around the lake. You can get out on the water in the paddleboats, kayaks, and canoes that are available to rent, or rent a bike to explore the park.

Other amenities at the park include angling, a tier-one skate park, an outdoor swimming pool, and a wheelchair accessible playground. Among the wildlife you might see are large numbers of Canada geese which call the park home.

Soldiers Field Veterans Memorial

The Soldiers Field Veterans Memorial features the Wall of Remembrance which is a fitting tribute to those Minnesota servicemen and women who made the ultimate sacrifice to protect our freedom. The Trees of Remembrance area contains 50 trees representing each state in America with each tree having been donated. The Walk of Remembrance features more than 6,300 donated pavers which honor veterans who served with the American armed forces or its allies.

Rochester City & Mayo Historical Tour

The Rochester Trolley and Tour Company offers hop-off and hop-on tours of the city’s top attractions and historical sites. Tours run every Wednesday, Saturday, and Sunday, March through May. The narrated tour on the vintage red trolleys takes around 90 minutes, but your ticket is good all day. The company also runs tours to areas of interest outside of the city.

Vehicles are a significant investment; besides a house, they are one of the largest purchases that you can make. So getting the most out of your vehicle should be a focus. Quality products, routine maintenance, and following the suggested levels and pressures are all great ways for improving the life of your vehicle. Check out these three out of the box ways to make your vehicle last longer.

Invest in Synthetic Oil

One of the main ways to ensure the longevity of your vehicle is to keep up with scheduled oil changes. What some people may not know is that synthetic oil is better for your vehicle’s engine system. It costs more but is worth it in the end, especially if you can get more years and miles out of your car.

Why is synthetic oil better for your vehicle?  Synthetic motor oil can withstand extremely high temperatures while resisting the breakdown that occurs with oil. It also maintains the lubrication longer than standard oil, which helps with fuel economy.

Turn Those Tires

Tire mileage is significant not only for your vehicle, but also for your safety. Tires break down from more than just mileage; age, temperature changes, and exposure to UV rays can also shorten their lifespan. Tires are incredibly flexible when they are first put on, but over time they lose that flexibility. They also lose tread from driving. Pressure also has a lot to do with how long your tires will last. Being over or underinflated can cause tires to deteriorate faster.

Maintaining your tires at the recommended air pressure, as well as getting them routinely rotated and aligned can make the life of your tires, and your vehicle, last longer.

How do you know when you need to get new tires? Age and tread depth are two key indicators. At approximately five years old, the flexibility is most likely gone, and you may begin to see dry rot. Also, if you notice that your tires have little tread left, it is time for new tires.

Keep it Cool

Your air conditioning system can be a costly repair if you do not take care of it via routine maintenance. Let’s face it, a car without air conditioning can also cause you to want to get a different car, which is also expensive. There are a few things you can do to guarantee that you get the most out of your air conditioning system and keep it running well.

In the spring, have your air conditioning system inspected and checked for leaks. Get the refrigerant filled if needed and any leaks fixed before they cause a major issue. Keep your car cool and save yourself some time and energy in the long-run.

Rochester Toyota is not only your dealership for new cars, but also for keeping the car you have in good shape. Contact us today to talk with one of our trained professionals on how to get the most of the vehicle you have.
