The thought of engine problems is a stress for any driver. Fortunately, in Rochester, MN, your Toyota dealer is on hand to fix any of these problems for you. Most problems can be easily and inexpensively repaired if they’re identified as soon as they develop. These are a few potential problems that we can repair in your engine.
3 Engine Problems You Should Always Get Fixed at Your Toyota Dealer
Worn Ignition Coils
As every driver knows, an engine depends on the ignition of fuel and air to create combustion. These controlled explosions take place in the engine cylinders. Once the fuel-air mix is correct, it’s compressed in the cylinder by the upward movement of the piston. At the height of compression, the spark plug attached to the cylinder will ignite the mixture. The spark plug, however, depends on an ignition coil to supply the necessary power.
An ignition coil is connected to each spark plug. The coil generates 30,000 volts of electricity which the plug uses to ignite the mixture in the cylinder. Ignition coils can burn out over time, and they can fail due to damage by other components. A failed ignition coil will prevent combustion in the cylinder it’s connected to, and your engine will misfire. We’ll remove the damaged coil and fit a new one to fix this problem.
Worn Radiator Hoses
Coolant is pumped through your engine to reduce the temperature. Your engine operates at a high temperature due to combustion, and the heat it generates has to be removed as quickly as possible. The coolant transports the heat from the engine to the radiator, where the heat is removed by heat exchange. The radiator is connected to the cooling system by two thick rubber hoses.
Radiator hoses are designed to withstand high temperatures and high pressure, and they regularly transport coolant at temperatures over 300 F. We routinely test your hoses during your engine services to ensure that they are supple and in good condition. The heat and pressure can cause the hoses to crack and leak coolant if they aren’t regularly examined. If one or both of the hoses are worn, we can install a replacement very quickly.
Starter Problems
Few problems are more frustrating for any driver than your car refusing to start. The starter is responsible for cranking your engine, which starts the combustion process. You can identify the starter as a potential cause if you listen when you try and start your car.
If your starter is working correctly, you’ll hear a click when you press the start button. If you don’t hear a click, your starter motor could be causing the problem. Our technicians will; examine the starter and repair or replace it.
