For nearly two decades, Toyota has long been associated with hybrid passenger vehicles. Since its introduction of the Prius, which became the first mass-produced hybrid vehicle in the world, Toyota has continued to be at the forefront of hybrid technology.
As 2018 came to an end, the lineup of Toyota vehicles offering a hybrid model was at its highest point, and that’s not changing as we head into the 2019 model year. Hybrid vehicles that Toyota currently offers include not only cars but crossovers and sport utility vehicles as well. With the Prius getting much of the attention, let us take a closer look at some of the other hybrid vehicles currently available from Toyota.
Camry
The 2019 Toyota Camry Hybrid comes in three trim levels. These include the LE, SE, and XLE. Its 2.5-liter Dynamic Force V-4 engine produces 176 horsepower and 163 pound-feet of torque. As with anyone looking to purchase a hybrid vehicle, fuel economy is a top consideration. The Camry LE gets an EPA estimated 51 miles per gallon city and 53 miles per gallon highway. This is in large part due to the Hybrid Synergy Drive and the Camry’s technologically advanced battery.
Avalon
Toyota offers a hybrid version for its premium full-size Avalon. The 2019 Avalon is offered in three trim levels that include the XLE, XSE, and Limited. As with the Toyota Camry, the 2019 Avalon is equipped with a 2.5-liter Dynamic Force V-4 engine providing similar horsepower and torque numbers as the Camry Hybrid. The Avalon Hybrid gets an EPA estimated 43 mpg city and 44 mpg highway. It is worth noting that the Avalon Hybrid received a Best Resale Value designation by Kelley Blue Book for vehicles in its class.
RAV4
The hybrid lineup for Toyota is not just confined to its cars, its small sport utility vehicle, the RAV4, also has a hybrid version. The 2019 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid is offered in four trim levels including the LE, XLE, SE, and Limited. Even when set on a hybrid model, the RAV4, still offers many options and choices. The RAV4’s capable hybrid engine produces 194 net horsepower. It gets an EPA estimated 34 mpg city and 30 mpg highway. Combined with its available all-wheel drive, the RAV4 is a powerful and secure compact hybrid sport utility vehicle.
Highlander
For new car buyers looking for a mid-size crossover or sport utility vehicle equipped with a hybrid engine, Toyota also has an option for you. The 2019 Toyota Highlander Hybrid is offered in three trim levels that include LE, XLE, and Limited. Its 3.5-liter V-6 engine combines with an electric motor to produce 306 net horsepower. This combination enables it to produce an EPA estimated 30 mpg city and 28 mpg highway. The Highlander Hybrid has also received a five-star safety rating.
