Are you looking for something to do with the kids on their days off from school? If so, consider one of these five kid-friendly activities to discover in Rochester, MN.
Trolley Tour
Introduce your kids to how travel in town used to be in the past by taking them on a tour of Rochester by way of the trolley. People of all ages love riding a trolley to the various sights around the city, including Rochester’s historical sites, Amish country, the Mississippi River Valley, and more. Not only will your children enjoy the unique ride, but they’ll be learning about the city as well.
Trolley tours run every day except Mondays and Tuesdays and pricing is based on the tour selected. One of the best tours of the year is the Jolly Trolley Holliday Lights Tour, which is offered during the holiday season and is priced at $10 per child and $20 per adult.
Machine Shed
When your kids (or grandkids) ask you about how life was when you were little, bring them to Machine Shed, where they can see what an authentic 1980s arcade looked like. You will find all the classic arcade games from the late 20th century, but you’ll also be able to play some games on a few newer consoles as well. Your kids will be in video game heaven while you spend some nostalgic time remembering your own childhood.
You won’t beat the price either, as $10 gets a visitor an all-day pass. With the number of games available, you could easily spend all afternoon here playing the games and reminiscing about the good old days. Food and drink are available on-site, and a live DJ makes Friday night appearances as well.
Spark
A product of the Minnesota Children’s Museum of Rochester, Spark offers a hands-on learning experience for younger kids between the ages of about two and 10. This is a particularly helpful place in the winter when the bitterly cold weather prevents you from taking your little ones outside.
Exhibits change at Spark every few weeks, meaning you can take your kids frequently and they will have a different experience each time. The space is quite small, but this means you won’t have to chase your kids around very far while they’re having so much!
Oxbow Park
For an outdoor adventure, Oxbow Park is an ideal choice. It is essentially a zoo that is situated on several hundred acres, but there are other activities available here as well, including hiking trails, athletic fields, and a learning center. Even better is that this is a free attraction, so everyone can afford to bring their kids to this wonderful place. Donations are encouraged to help maintain the park and feed the animals.
Bowlocity Entertainment Center
An afternoon spent bowling or playing laser tag is a fun way to hang out with kids, especially if they are older. Bowlocity Entertainment Center offers both activities at reasonable prices. If you don’t want to bowl or run around playing tag, you can challenge yourself on any one of the 45 ticket-redemption games and maybe win your child a prize.
Rochester is an excellent city for kids and the five activities here are wonderful choices for an afternoon or full day of fun. Stop by Rochester Toyota for driving directions or for additional kid-friendly recommendations!
