What is new on the 2026 Toyota RAV4?

Nearly everything. The 2026 RAV4 is a full redesign, the sixth generation, and the gas-only model is gone. Every RAV4 now gets help from an electric motor, either as a hybrid or a plug-in hybrid.

The hybrid uses Toyota's fifth-generation hybrid system with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder. Output is 226 net combined horsepower with front-wheel drive and 236 with AWD. A 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster, a built-in dash cam and Toyota's newest multimedia system are standard. Hybrid RAV4s are built in Lexington, Kentucky, and in Ontario, Canada.

Is the RAV4 Hybrid good in Rochester, MN snow?

Yes, if you pick AWD and put good tires on it. The RAV4's all-wheel drive uses a dedicated electric motor on the rear axle. Toyota says it can send power to the rear wheels during a start from a stop, and again when the front tires begin to slip. AWD helps you get going. It does not help you stop sooner, so leave extra room.

Ground clearance is 8.1 inches on most grades and 8.5 on the Woodland. Heated front seats come on the SE, XLE Premium, XSE and Limited. The Limited also gets a heated steering wheel, heated rear seats and a windshield deicer, and the Woodland has the heated wheel and deicer too. All-terrain tires are not the same as winter tires, so ask us about a winter set for any grade.

Winter also means salt. Toyota covers body rust-through for 60 months, and regular washes plus visits to our service center help the body hold up. Before a long drive, check road conditions at Minnesota 511.

Should you get the RAV4 Hybrid or the Plug-in Hybrid?

For most shoppers, the hybrid. You never plug it in, and it starts at $31,900. The plug-in hybrid makes 324 net combined horsepower and comes with AWD. The SE has the longest all-electric range of the four plug-in grades, and Toyota's range number differs by grade, so we will go over it with you. It starts at $41,500. You will want a place to charge it, ideally a garage outlet, and cold weather cuts electric range on any plug-in. Details are on our RAV4 Plug-in Hybrid page.

How much can the RAV4 tow and haul?

Toyota lists up to 3,500 pounds of towing, which applies to the XLE Premium, SE and Woodland with AWD. The LE with AWD is rated at 1,750 pounds, so check the grade before you buy a hitch. Cargo space is up to 37.8 cubic feet by Toyota's figure.

That covers a light utility trailer or a small camper that stays under the limit. It does not cover a boat and a loaded trailer. For heavier loads, look at the Highlander or the Tacoma.

What safety features come standard on the 2026 RAV4?

Toyota Safety Sense 4.0 comes on every grade, so you do not pay extra for it. It includes:

  • Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection
  • Full-Speed Range Dynamic Radar Cruise Control
  • Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist and Lane Tracing Assist
  • Road Sign Assist and Automatic High Beams
  • Proactive Driving Assist

Blind Spot Monitor with Rear Cross-Traffic Alert is also standard, along with a rear seat reminder and Hill Start Assist. Learn more on our Toyota Safety Sense page. These systems help the driver. They do not replace attentive driving.

2026 Toyota RAV4 FAQs: your questions answered

Is the 2026 Toyota RAV4 a hybrid?

Yes. For 2026 every RAV4 is either a hybrid or a plug-in hybrid, and the gas-only model is gone. The hybrid pairs a 2.5-liter four-cylinder with electric motors and makes 226 net combined horsepower with front-wheel drive or 236 with all-wheel drive. You never plug it in, because it charges itself while you drive. The LE with front-wheel drive is rated at 43 mpg combined.

Does the 2026 RAV4 come with all-wheel drive?

It depends on the grade. The LE, SE and XLE Premium come with front-wheel drive or Electronic On-Demand AWD, so you choose. The Woodland, XSE and Limited come with AWD standard, and so does every plug-in hybrid. The system uses a dedicated electric motor on the rear axle. For Minnesota winters we lean toward AWD, and we can show you which RAV4s on our lot have it.

How much does the 2026 Toyota RAV4 cost?

The RAV4 Hybrid starts at $31,900 for the LE, by Toyota's base MSRP. The SE is $34,700, the XLE Premium $36,100, the Woodland $39,900, the XSE $41,300 and the Limited $43,300. Those are starting prices. AWD, packages, color and options change the total, and taxes, title, license and fees are extra. For out-the-door numbers on a RAV4 we have in stock, call our sales team.

What is the gas mileage of the 2026 RAV4?

Toyota's estimates are 47 city and 40 highway for the LE, SE and XLE Premium with front-wheel drive, which is 43 combined. With AWD, the LE and SE are rated 45/39 and the XLE Premium 45/38. The Woodland is 41/35, and the XSE and Limited are 43/37. Cold weather and short trips lower mileage on any hybrid, so expect your January numbers to dip.

Which RAV4 grade is best for Minnesota winters?

Any grade with AWD, then pick the comfort items you will use on a cold morning. Heated front seats come on the SE, XLE Premium, XSE and Limited. The Limited adds a heated steering wheel, heated rear seats and a windshield deicer, and the Woodland has the heated wheel and deicer too. The XLE Premium with AWD is a solid middle pick. Tires matter as much as the drivetrain, so ask us about a winter set.

How much can the 2026 RAV4 tow?

Toyota lists up to 3,500 pounds. That figure applies to the XLE Premium, SE and Woodland with AWD. The LE with AWD is rated at 1,750 pounds, so check the grade before you hook up a trailer. The Woodland includes a 2-inch hitch receiver with a wiring harness. For something heavier, look at the Highlander or the Tacoma. Always stay under the limit in your owner's manual.

Is Toyota Safety Sense standard on the 2026 RAV4?

Yes, on every grade. Toyota Safety Sense 4.0 includes Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection, Full-Speed Range Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist, Lane Tracing Assist, Road Sign Assist, Automatic High Beams and Proactive Driving Assist. Blind Spot Monitor with Rear Cross-Traffic Alert is standard too. These systems help the driver. They do not replace safe, attentive driving.

What warranty comes with a new RAV4?

A new RAV4 has a 36-month/36,000-mile basic warranty and a 60-month/60,000-mile powertrain warranty. It also has 60 months of coverage against corrosion perforation. Hybrid-related components are covered for 8 years or 100,000 miles, and the hybrid battery for 10 years or 150,000 miles, whichever comes first. The battery coverage transfers to the next owner. ToyotaCare terms vary by model year, so ask us for the exact maintenance coverage on the RAV4 you pick.
