2021 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid
Toyota continues to be a leader when it comes to hybrid vehicles, so it's no surprise that the RAV4 Hybrid sits at the top of its class. With room for five and a quick and efficient powertrain, this crossover SUV has a lot to love. The 2021 RAV4 Hybrid has just a few changes, including the addition of the XLE Premium trim level. Also new for 2021, the plug-in hybrid RAV4 Prime makes an appearance.
Trim Levels (Exterior)
The LE Hybrid is the entry-level trim. It comes with 17-inch silver alloy wheels, LED daytime running lights, LED headlights, a black front grille, LED taillights, and black roof rails. The XLE Hybrid adds LED projector headlights, fog lights, proximity entry, and heated side door mirrors with integrated turn signals. The new XLE Premium has a sunroof, larger wheels, a power liftgate, and a raised suspension. Choose the XSE Hybrid for black 18-inch alloy wheels, black exterior trim elements, a dark gray metallic front grille, and a power tilt and slide sunroof. Go for the Limited to add 18-inch chrome alloy wheels and side mirror puddle lights.
The new Prime plug-in hybrid comes in the SE, and the XSE trims.
Engine (Power)
The hybrid version of the RAV4 comes with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder gas engine and two electric motors that together generate a total of 219 horsepower. One of the motors will power the rear wheels when it senses low-traction. A CVT works with the engine and motors, and all-wheel drive comes standard with every trim.
Performance
The RAV4 Hybrid is quicker than the gas-powered models and can get up to 60 miles per hour in just 7.4 seconds. Drivers will feel the extra power whether they are running around town or passing on the highway. The new Prime model has even more power with a zero to 60 time of only 5.6 seconds. The hybrid and the plug-in hybrid both offer a smooth and competent ride, and when properly equipped, the RAV4 Hybrid can tow up to 1,750 pounds.
Interior
Just like the gas-powered RAV4, the Hybrid has two rows of seats and room for five. It also has a spacious cargo area with 37.6 cubic feet of space behind the rear seats and 69.8 cubic feet of cargo space with the rear seats folded down. A height-adjustable driver's seat comes standard with an 8-way power-adjustable driver's seat available. SofTex simulated leather is an upgrade from the cloth upholstery in the XLE Premium and above, and the higher trims also have a leather-wrapped steering wheel.
Safety Features
All of the 2021 RAV4 Hybrid trims come standard with a rearview camera and the Safety Sense 2.0 suite. This group includes a forward collision mitigation system with automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, automatic high beam headlights, a traffic sign recognition system, and a lane-keeping assist system that makes minor steering corrections when needed to keep you in your lane. A blind-spot monitor comes in the XLE and above, and the Limited adds the option for a surround-view camera system.
