2019 Toyota Corolla

The Corolla comes in six different trim levels with almost 30 total configurations between them. The sedan trims include the L, LE, LE Eco, SE, XLE, and XSE while the hatchback versions can be found only in the SE and XSE. <br></br> The L is the base-line trim and comes standard with Toyota Safety Sense, Bi-LED headlights and LED daytime running lights, power windows, bright front fascia with piano-black grille, and 15-inch steel wheels. The LE sees upgrades to the Entune integrated audio system, optional 16-inch steel wheels that can be upgraded to chrome alloy, heated power outside windows, automatic climate control, and remote keyless entry. <br></br> The LE Eco has the same upgrades as the LE except for slightly different wheels and Valvematic technology to increase fuel efficiency. The XLE trim includes Multi-LED headlights with LED accent lights, rear combination taillights, power moonroof, 16-inch alloy wheels, and a roof mounted antenna. The SE introduces a rear spoiler, optional manual transmission, 17-inch alloy wheels, and a chrome-tipped exhaust. The XSE comes standard with SofTex-trimmed front seats, an enhanced Entune integrated audio system, and front heated seats.

Every trim level of the Toyota Corolla comes with the same 1.8-liter, 4-cylinder, dual overhead cam, 16-valve engine, but there is an important difference with the LE Eco. Whereas the other trims use Dual Variable Valve Timing with intelligence (VVT-i) to adjust intake timing, the Eco uses Toyota's newer Valvematic technology which increases both engine output and fuel efficiency.

The main transmission available throughout the Corolla trims (except the LE Eco) is a Continuously Variable Transmission with intelligence (CVT-i) and Shift Mode. Instead of the gear setup on traditional transmissions, CVT uses a pair of variable-width pulleys to deliver power to the wheels. The SE and XSE can also be equipped with a 6-speed manual transmission. The suspension on the Corolla uses Independent MacPherson struts in the front and a torsion beam rear suspension with stabilizer bar. Power-assisted ventilated front and rear disc brakes with the Star Safety System minimize slipping and sliding.

The Toyota Corolla is an excellent choice for small families and commuters. It can comfortably seat five people with a decent amount of legroom in the rear seats and has 13 cubic feet of cargo room in the trunk. The 60/40 rear seats can also fold down if extra cargo room is needed. The Entune system gives drivers access to navigation, system status, and multimedia apps that are delivered via a touch-screen display and JBL speaker system.

The Toyota Corolla comes standard with the Toyota Safety Sense and Star Safety System. The former consists of active features such as active lane departure alert, dynamic radar cruise control, automatic high beams, and pedestrian protection. The latter has an anti-lock braking system, electronic brake-force distribution, and traction control to keep drivers safe in inclement conditions.
